Abstract

Optical characterization of Sm3+ doped Lead Borate, Sodium Borate, and Sodium Lead Borate glasses was reported by measuring their densities, refractive indices, physical and non-linearity properties, absorption, and emission spectra to identify a better laser host material. The nature of the glass samples were identified by XRD spectra. Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters Ωλ are calculated from the measured oscillator strengths of the absorption bands. By applying these Ωλ parameters to the emission spectral data, various radiative properties were evaluated. The values of these parameters indicate that the glass strength, stability, and optical properties were significantly improved by adding PbO content to the borate glass matrices and predicting potential laser transitions.
