Abstract

Interband optical conductivity and oscillator strength of NdAg in both paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases at normal pressure have been calculated from the energy band structure calculations in the Linear Muffin-Tin Orbital with Atomic Sphere Approximation (LMTO-ASA) formalism. The transition probability has a strong effect on the magnitude and position of the peaks in both the phases. The optical conductivity in the ferromagnetic phase is greater in magnitude throughout the energy range and a marked change is observed in the nature of the peak at 0.4 Ryd. This goes to show that the spin-spin exchange interaction is fairly strong in NdAg.
