Abstract

The reflectivity, luminescence excitation and emission spectra and luminescence kinetics of LiBaF3 single crystals pure and doped with Eu or Ce have been studied in the energy range 4–35 eV in the temperature range 4.5–300 K using synchrotron radiation. The energy bandgap of the crystals was evaluated as being not less than 11.5 eV. The mechanisms of the energy transfer to the dopant ions are discussed.
