Abstract

An electrostatic theory of dielectric and optical properties of two-component media is developed. The average susceptibility is written in a form in which the bulk dielectric properties of particles composing the medium are separated from the structural (geometrical) properties. The results are used to compare some frequently employed theories of effective dielectric properties. An example of a cluster polarisability calculation is given.
