Abstract

LaF3:samarium (Sm) nanocrystals have been prepared by hydrothermal method. The nanocrystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy. The absorption, luminescence spectra of LaF3:Sm samples were measured at room temperature. By using Judd–Ofelt theory, intensity parameters (Ω2, Ω4 and Ω6) have been obtained from optical absorption measurements. Based on these Judd–Ofelt parameters, various radiative parameters such as radiative transition probabilities, radiative lifetime, branching ratios and stimulated emission cross-section for 4G5/2 excited level of LaF3:Sm nanocrystals were predicted.
