Abstract

We study, in the visible range, the transmission of light through a combination of periodic and quasi-periodic one-dimensional, dielectric photonic bandgap structures. The quasi-periodic structure is built according to the pattern of the Cantor discontinuum. We show that the whole structure (P)(QP)p(P), where P and QP are respectively the periodic and the quasi-periodic structures, and p the repetition number for the QP stack, has an interesting application as a polychromatic filter. The effect of the repetition number for producing an improved polychromatic filter is presented. A switch-like (on-off-on-off- ...) transmission coefficient has been found at λ = 0.5 µm.
