Abstract

Optical phonon modes in MnO at room temperature have been measured using a beryllium filter detector technique. The method is shown to have good energy resolution and adequate momentum resolution for these measurements. The results are combined with earlier results and it is shown that neither the simple shell model nor the breathing shell model gives an adequate representation.
