Abstract

We present detailed studies of the optical properties of the new nonlinear material BiB/sub 3/O/sub 6/ for parametric generation from the visible to near-infrared. We have determined the phase-matching conditions and effective nonlinear coefficients, acceptance bandwidths, spatial and temporal walkoff, and group velocity dispersion in the three principal optical planes. We also compare the properties of this material with /spl beta/-BaB/sub 2/O/sub 4/, which indicate its potential advantages for parametric generation applications.
