Abstract

The increase in Urbach energy E o for decreasing x in a-Si xC 1−x:H is accounted for in terms of potential fluctuations in an alloy without site correlations. The influence of disorder on the optical gap E g is determined by a convolutional procedure which extends a recent theory of DOS tails. We find E g ≅ E x − 1.3 E o.
