Abstract

A novel optical near-field generator and detector are fabricated by using a metal-dielectric film composed of silver metal and spherical fused silica. The generators formed on the facets of laser diodes convert lasing light into the optical near-field. The detectors formed on InGaAs and InP epitaxial layers clearly respond to the optical near-field converted from propagating light. This shows the applicability of metal-dielectric film to optical near-field generators and detectors.
