Abstract

AbstractA new instrumentation for the optical modelling of unstable rolling processes, a polarisation device, a rolling mill, and rolls fabricated from optical glass are described. The uniformity of the changes in contact stress during rolling with increasing back tension preceding strip slippage between the rolls is explored. It is shown that the methods for the determination offriction coefficient based on changes of the kinematics of the metal deformed zone caused by externalforces are unreliable.MST/1890
