Abstract
Optical constants have been measured for sputtered thin films of platinum, cobalt and multilayer Pt/Co. Magneto-optical constants have also been measured for the films containing cobalt. These constants are presented as a function of the thickness of the films and the wavelength of the incident radiation. The relevance of these measured constants to the optimisation of disk structures is considered.
