Abstract

An optical logic processor is presented that can handle large data arrays in parallel. The logic operation itself is easy to perform by means of spatial filtering. Not so easy (in real-time) is the encoding of the data before processing. The logic states (zero or one) are represented by anisotropic scattering properties of the transparency that carries the array of data. Laboratory experiments (not in real time) show acceptable results.
