Abstract

This paper presents a novel nonlinear hybrid plasmonic waveguide structure on the InP-substrate. The proposed hybrid plasmonic waveguide consists of a thin layer of nonlinear polymer of DDMEBT on a conventional InP-based waveguide layer caped with a metal layer, which can be monolithically integrated with a laser and a photodetector. By using the Kerr effect at an optical communication wavelength of 1550 nm, this layer stack shows a useful all-optical switching.
