Abstract

The isotope shifts of radioactive 80,82Sr have been measured by a new, ultrasensitive, laser fluorescence technique. The results have been used to calculate the following changes in nuclear charge radii: delta (r2)84,82=+0.060(8) and delta (r2)82,80=+0.065(9). These values, together with those of nearby stable isotopes, are discussed in terms of changes in the static and dynamic nuclear deformations.
