Abstract
Some effects of parameters such as fiber loss, fiber dispersion and amplifier spacing in soliton systems are considered. It is shown by computer simulation that the soliton system using Er-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) has potential to realize a trans-Pacific system (over 10000 km) without any three-R-repeaters. The relation between the soliton period and the EDFA spacing is considered. >
