Abstract

An IF optical transmitter for a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) receiver using a pair of parallel light-emitting diodes (LEDs) operating at a wavelength of 850 nm is described. A pair of parallel LEDs is used to increase the optical power for IF signal transmission in the DBS receiver. The optical power is increased by 3 dB when one LED is added to the original one. The transmission length is increased to more than 1 km when GI optical fiber is used. >
