Abstract

Philips is now marketing the optical videodisc system (Laservision) and the audio Compact Disc and will soon introduce the digital optical recorder. The first two systems are consumer oriented, offering video and audio and high quality audio respectively; both are playback only systems. The digital optical recorder is a mass storage medium which can read and write. The author first discusses in detail the Laservision system and then examines the other two, which are technically closely related to it
