Abstract

A noncontact sensor has been developed for detecting defects in thin-film sheet strips consisting of opacity variation, holes, cracks, and rendings or thickness variation of transparent film. It uses a fluorescent plastic optical fiber and a large luminescent source. A physical model has been developed and computer simulations have been performed in order to analyze the influence of all system parameters. Numerous experimental results are presented, and good agreement is observed with the theoretical model. >
