Abstract

The temperature dependence of fluorescence depolarization has been investigated in C 4 v (F −) centers in Pr 3+ and Eu 3+ doped CaF 2 and SrF 2 crystals. A single potential barrier for the reorientation of the interstitial fluorine was sufficient for the Eu 3+ doped crystals, but for Pr 3+ a second, lower-energy reorientation barrier was required.
