Abstract
Communication in transportation systems can be manifold. There are many different means of transportation; particularly cars, busses, trains, airplanes and ships are discussed in this chapter. Communication in transportation systems consists of three domains: communication of the means of transportation with the outside world, communication within the means of transportation and machine‐to‐machine communication for control purposes. The communication with the outside world is far more challenging because of mobility. The environment may be very different for different means of mass transportation and may change frequently. The chapter presents the results of many years of research by scientists of the Radio‐receiver Devices Department of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), directed at the creation of an experimental sample of a panoramic radar sensor of the vehicle, looking in a forward direction. Owing to the high information awareness of the radar image (RI), this sensor is called the Automobile Radio Vision System (AVRS).
