Abstract

Optical conversion between two types of relaxed exciton states in RbCl:I has been investigated by means of double excitation method. When the crystal irradiated with ArF-excimer laser pulse is excited subsequently with N 2 -laser pulse, emission from the relaxed exciton of one-center type localized on the site of an I - ion ( NE emission ) occurs. Generation of the NE omission is accompanied by a simultaneous decrease of emission from the relaxed exciton of two-center type with the configuration of [ICl - +e] ( BG emission ). Intensity change of induced NE emission as a function of delay of N 2 -laser pulse irradiation was found to reflect decay times of BG emission. It is concluded that relaxed exciton of two-center type can be converted optically to that of one-center type via its hole-excited state.
