Abstract

The turbidity of biological tissues and blood leads to the reduction of imaging quality, resolution, and probing depth in various optical imaging techniques. The method of immersion optical clearing can be effectively used to improve light transport in tissues and blood. The application of biocompatible clearing agents can effectively reduce light scattering in turbid biological samples and enhance the optical penetration depth of optical imaging techniques. Blood and blood components, such as hemoglobin, can also be applied as optical clearing agents for improving light transport in biological tissues. The application of hemoglobin solutions as optical clearing agents has the potential to be an efficient method for in vivo optical clearing of blood and skin.
