Abstract

A novel approach to the design of optical orthogonal codes to be used in intensity modulation-direct detection fiber-optic local area networks is used in this work. The algorithm introduced in this study is based on the extended set concept which enables the design of optical CDMA codes with best achievable correlation properties. One important advantage over existing code design methods is the fact that the code set size will be an input parameter to the design algorithm. Furthermore, the effect of shortening the code length of the generated codewords are also examined in this paper.
