Abstract

When the KI crystals colored additively or electrolytically are irradiated at 19 K with 270 nm-light, the new bands appear at 404, 575 and 808 nm. These three bands are assigned to I 2 - or I 2 - -like centers. Upon irradiation with polarized 328-nm light at 19 K, the V 2 and V 3 bands at 342 and 289 nm exhibit the anisotropy. Configurations of V 2 (or V 3 ) centers at low temperatures are discussed from the viewpoint of an I 3 - molecular ion in KI crystals.
