Abstract

Linear hydrogen bond liquid crystal (HBLC) series comprising of 4- hydroxy benzaldehyde (HBA) and p-n alkyloxy benzoic acids (nBAO) have been intensively investigated for their optical and thermal applications. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) obtained for all the mesogenic complexes reveals the optical applicational utility of the homologues as high pass, low pass and notch filters in the mid IR range. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) datum identifies the thermal equilibrium possessed, thermal stability factor of the individual mesophases, nature of the enthalpy, entropy of the mesophases and specific heat temperatures along with phase transition temperatures.
