Abstract
Nd-doped BaTi4O9 crystals were prepared by the optical floating zone crystallization technique and, their optical and radiation response properties were investigated. Under X-ray irradiation, Nd-doped crystals showed a broad emission peak around 1000 nm and several sharp emission lines in the NIR ranges were confirmed. The broad and sharp emission peaks would be due to a kind of defects and the 4f-4f transitions of Nd3+, respectively. As the X-ray exposure dose rate response, 0.5–2.0 % Nd-doped BaTi4O9 crystals indicated the dynamic range from 0.006 to 60 Gy/h, which was wider than that of Pr-doped BaTi4O9 crystals reported in our previous work.
