Abstract

The optical absorption spectrum of the single crystals of nickel doped magnesium potassium phosphate hexahydrate is investigated at laboratory and liquid nitrogen temperatures. The spectrum is characteristic of Ni 2+ ion in octahedral symmetry associated with spin-orbit interaction. The following set of crystal field ( Dq), interelectronic repulsion (B, C) and spin-orbit ( g ) parameters are evaluated. B = 890 cm −1 c = 3740 cm −1 Dq = 935 cm −1 g = 600 cm −1
