Abstract

Absorption spectra of Nd 3+ ion in certain fluoroborate glasses have been studied and the spectroscopic parameters such as Racah ( E K ), spin-orbit ( ξ 4 f ) and configuration interaction (α) parameters have been calculated. From the intensity parameters ( Ω γ ) and from the squared reduced matrix elements (| U λ| 2 ), radiative transition probabilities ( A), branching ratios (β) and radiative life times ( τ R ) are calculated for the excited 4G 5 2 , 4G 7 2 , 4G 9 2 , 4F 5 2 , 4F 9 2 , 4F 3 2 and 2H 11 2 states of the Nd 3+ ion in fluoroborate glasses.
