Abstract

Optical absorption, photoluminescence and thermoluminescence emission studies are made on CsCl:Dy 3+ crystals at room temperature. The glow curve and optical absorption studies clearly show the participation of dysprosium ions in the thermoluminescence process. The new high temperature 458 K glow peak, which is not observed in pure CsCl is ascribed to the dysprosium impurity and gives the characteristic emissions of the Dy 3+ at 465, 560 nm due to transitions from the 4F 9 2 to the 6H levels and confirmed by photoluminescence also.
