Abstract

Despite recommendations for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening by the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, studies have demonstrated underusage of AAA screening ultrasound among Medicare beneficiaries. Given the increasing use of other imaging modalities in this population, it is possible that high-risk beneficiaries are being “screened” for AAAs using alternative imaging modalities. We examined the opportunities for AAA detection through various abdominal imaging modalities among Medicare beneficiaries with a smoking history and explored differences in imaging by sex, race, and ethnicity.
