Abstract

In today's world telecommunication plays an important role and to support it, QoS (Quality of Service) has to be given the maximum priority. As a third generation (3G) technology UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems) needs improved QoS because it has to provide QoS both for voice and data. In UMTS network Forward Access Channel (FACH) is one of the downlink transport channel that carries both control messages and user data traffic from Radio Network Controller (RNC) to user equipment (UE). Using forward access scheduling in RNC the QoS of various traffic classes can be improved. In this paper we analyze how this scheduling and bandwidth (data rate) does affect the QoS of various traffic classes in UMTS network based on a simple scenario. Here we have tried to focus specially on end-to-end delay using OPNET Simulator simulation.
