Abstract

ABSTRACT This study evaluated consumers’ perceptions of different nutrition fact labels in online menus in southern Brazil A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with participants from the state of Rio Grande do Sul (southern Brazil) from October 2021 to January 2022.An online questionnaire was sent with three nutrition fact labels (namely traffic light, warning, and simplified), and 552 people participated, mostly women (80.3%) with a mean age of 35.7 years (±12.4). The traffic light model significantly influenced (p < 0.001) consumer choices, and the level of acceptability and understanding of the traffic light and warning models were satisfactory; there were no preferred models among the participants. Additionally, the data showed that consumers were increasingly fastidious regarding the information provided in food services when purchasing meals or snacks. Hence, it is highly relevant for government agencies to study the implementation of these labeling systems in food services.
