Abstract

This article presents the author’s opinion on the need to focus on usability and affordability issues in agricultural robotics research. While fundamental studies for robotics are still important, addressing farmers’ concerns on usability and affordability issues will help accelerate the adoption of robots in agriculture. It also offers the author’s view on the challenges and research needs in achieving desired efficiency and usability in agricultural robotics, such as ensuring that robots can perform tasks consistently in different fields and making them operable by farmers with limited training. The author has also emphasized the importance of addressing affordability issues before introducing robotic solutions to farmers.
