Abstract

For nearly twenty years Fox's text has been a standard reference for ophthalmologists. From its beginning in 1952 it has gone through four editions; it has doubled in size; and it has more than doubled the number of its illustrations. Through that time it has preserved the fundamental elements that originally created its popularity. First among these is clarity of text and illustration. Second is a basic conservatism most commendable in a plastic surgeon. This conservatism is reflected most emphatically by the author's recommendation of procedures which have been successful in his hands. Alternative procedures are discussed and evaluated in a way which is at once personal and rational. Procedures with promise that have not been used long enough for a final decision to be reached are clearly identified. The present edition runs to 100 more pages than the previous (1963) edition.
