Abstract

This article relates several “horror stories” of incidents that operators encountered during their regular work shifts. Incidents include: chlorine ejectors that wouldn't open; a dead and decaying possum in a valve box; dead skunks in an aboveground storage tank; a deserted treatment plant; a missing patrol car; complaints that the drinking water was causing hair to fall out; an attack of killer bees; an inebriated operator caused storage tanks to overflow and others were critically low; and, failure to purge the air from distribution pipes after they were drained for maintenance‐caused shattering of fixtures.
