Abstract

In this paper I discuss how to use fuzzy logic in the measurement of operational risk within a financial institution. After reviewing the theoretical basis and the main approaches to the assessment of operational risk in modern banking, I describe an application of fuzzy logic within an integrated risk management framework. A clustering algorithm is developed based on a fuzzy algebra that produces a ranking of the business units within a financial institution.
