Abstract

The results and experiences of two 1 MWe solar thermal electric power pilot plants with a central receiver tower and with plane-parabolic mirror systems at Nio, Japan, are reported. The main objective of this project is to study the feasibility of solar thermal electric power generating system as one of the Japanese national project “SUNSHINE”. The pilot plants succeeded in the operation of 1 MWe rated electric power output at the end of summer in 1981. Their stable operations have been ascertained and several kinds of operations in both plants were studied to find the optimal operation mode and to make the operational standard. It was found from the both plants that high load operation is prefered to low load one for maximum electric output power. Some kinds of troubles were experienced in both plants. Especially, the concentrator of the plant with plane-parabolic systemsremaines technical problems on the reliability.
