Abstract

The high operational cost for purse seine fishing vessel makes fishing gear’s efficiency on this type of vessel is crucial. The economic improvement of fishers and boat owners is very dependent on this effort. Efficient fishing technology will reduce fishing operating costs with a larger number of catches. The description above indicates a need for research on the effect of changing fishing patterns after engine power efficiency has. The calculation is carried out on fishing gear equipment, namely power block, net length, net weight of the net, and net sinking speed on fishing operations’ efficiency. With the efficiency of fishing gear, the income of fishers increases more than the income before efficiency is carried out. The efficiency of fishing operations is strongly influenced by fuel, crew members’ consumption, fishing patterns, number of crew members, and operational effectiveness. Data analysis was carried out in two stages, namely regression analysis and efficiency analysis. Regression analysis aims to determine the magnitude of ship speed on fish catch, and efficiency analysis aims to determine engine power efficiency, operating time efficiency, hold efficiency and fishing gear efficiency. The results show that the calculation of engine power efficiency is about 75%, the operating time efficiency is around 55%, the hold efficiency is around 35%, and the fishing gear efficiency is around 73%.
