Abstract

This paper reports a study of the electromechanical principles involved in a variable capacitance micro-motor (VCM). It examines the principle of energy conversion for the machine. It also explores the electrostatic force analysis using coenergy method and Maxwell stress tensor method which can be used to estimate force densities in the air gap. A multi-level inverter has been designed and simulated for this machine supplying it with a preset value of voltage. Further, impact of various rotor profiles on torque versus angle characteristics of the VCM has been addressed. This study provides insight for design and control of VCM
