Abstract

Currently, researchers and practitioners are more careful about the usage of fossil energy sources due to its increasing adverse effect on energy security and global warming and trying to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Like some other developing countries of the world, Bangladesh is experiencing load shedding problem due to its continuously growing energy demand. Therefore, in this paper, a compound microgrid system incorporating renewable energy sources and hydrogen energy technology is proposed for the Chittagong city of Bangladesh to reduce existing energy crisis and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emission from fossil fuel consumption. Here, hydrogen energy is introduced as a new source of energy for power generation, and methylcyclohexane (MCH) is used for energy storage as well as a means of seasonal energy shifting. This paper investigates the optimization of the operation plan of the proposed microgrid system with a stable energy supply based on the daily electric power balance for three seasons using a genetic algorithm (GA). Besides, the individual capacity of the equipment used in the micro-grid system is verified based on the minimization of fossil fuel consumption.
