Abstract

DC technology has become an issue as it is applied to DC distribution systems, due to the acceptance increment of the renewable energy. For this reason, research on DC circuit breaker to be applied to Medium Voltage Direct Current(MVDC) or higher is active and various cut-off technologies are being developed. In this paper, we propose a fast and reliable superconducting LC resonant DC circuit breaker in DC system. It reduces the initial fault current through the superconducting element and the fault current reaches zero-point by LC resonance and is interrupted. We designed Pole-to-Pole(PTP) and Pole-to-Ground(PTG) simulation circuits using the PSCAD/EMTDC program. Also, we analyzed and compared the cut-off operation characteristics in the circuit. We confirmed that the superconducting element reduced the initial fault current and the power burden. It is expected that the deterioration of the protective devices and the surrounding equipment can be reduced.
