Abstract

Today various commercial, free, and open-source cloud software solutions are available for building clouds. Open-source cloud software solutions, promoted by the open-source community, give enterprises the ability to build their own private clouds with lower costs and without vendor lock-in issues. In this chapter we compare leading open-source cloud software solutions available in the community, under the umbrella of the following three main cloud service delivery models - infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). We use a different set of criteria for comparing software solutions under each model. At the end of the chapter, we discuss the features of open-source cloud infrastructure automation tools.
