Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the OpenMP performances in order to simulate the lid driven cavity flow using Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM). The LBM is known as a robust method to approximate the Navier-Stokes solutions. However, this method has a high computational cost due to the huge discrete approximations which are described into several lattices. In lid driven cavity simulations, the results using Reynold numbers Re = 40 and Re = 400 are given. The computational time in parallel and serial codes are observed for several lattice sizes 32×32, 64×64, 128×128, 256×256, and 512×512. The results show that, using lattice size 512×512, the CPU time for serial and parallel are obtained 15000 and 5000 seconds respectively for Re = 40. Moreover, for Re = 400 the CPU time in parallel code is obtained a half times of CPU time 55000 seconds in serial code.
