Abstract

AbstractThe author had a long history with Frances Hesselbein, going back to Frances’s years as CEO Girl Scouts of the USA. She knew her through good times and exceedingly challenging ones. She writes, “Frances often said, ‘leadership is who you are, not what you do;’ but what she did at the vanguard of key social movements in the second half of the last century and the first two decades of this century made a real difference to our society. She helped make us who we are.” The author also includes comments made two decades ago during her interview with the late Tom Moran, when he was Chairman of Mutual of America, an organization Frances worked with closely, with offices in its headquarters building. Moran recounted “… the outstanding example Frances set. There is no way to measure the inspiration she provides others to give that extra effort to make the world a better place to live in and share.”
