Abstract
The η 4 -benzene complex [(triphos)Ir(C 6 H 6 )]BPh 4 reacts with thiophene to give the iridathiabenzene complex [(triphos)Ir(η 2 -C,S-C 4 H 4 S)]BPh 4 (1) [triphos=MeC(CH 2 PPh 2 ) 3 ]. Compound I is selectively converted to the butadienethiolate complex [(triphos)Ir(η 3 -SCH=CHCH=CH 2 )] (2) by reaction with LiHBEt 3 via the (thiapentadienyl)-hydride kinetic intermediate [(triphos)IrH(η 2 -C,S-C 4 H 4 S)] (3)
