PREFACEProceedings of the Open School-Conference of NIS Countries «Ultrafine Grained and Nanostructured Materials – 2018» (UFGNM-2018)Radik R. Mulyukov, Ayrat A. Nazarov, Renat M. ImayevThe Open School-Conference of NIS Countries «Ultrafine Grained and Nanostructured Materials – 2018» (UFGNM - 2018) was successfully held in Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic, Russia, from October 1 till October 5, 2018. The UFGNM serial conference, which is held biennially since 2008, is becoming one of the leading materials science conferences in the territory of the former USSR, and aims to address fundamental problems and application prospects of advanced nanostructured and ultrafine grained materials. The conference scope includes but is not limited to various topics of this interdisciplinary field such as nanoparticles, nanowires, nanofilms and coatings, nanostructured composite materials, carbon nanostructures, bulk ultrafine grained metals and alloys, processing methods, structure and properties, interfaces in materials, superplasticity and related phenomena, solid state joining, theory and simulation etc.UFGNM-2018 was organized by the Institute for Metals Superplasticity Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with Bashkir State University and was supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Russian Foundation for Basic Research (grant # 18-02-20122), sponsored by LLC “TESCAN” (S.-Petersburg, Russia). The organizers also acknowledge donations from the Bashkortostan Regional Department of the Russian Engineering Union and LLC “Gazprom Tranzgas Ufa”.The proceedings contain 88 papers presented on the conference.
