Abstract

This letter presents an open-phase fault detection method for delta-connected permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive systems. This method is based on zero sequence current component (ZSCC) and stator currents. First, the model of the delta-connected PMSM is established under healthy and fault conditions. Then, the expression of the ZSCC is presented, and fault indicators are defined based on the ZSCC and stator currents, which are used for the open-phase fault detection and location. Finally, both the simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
