Abstract
Open Network Architecture (ONA) is a British Telecom initiative aimed at achieving a rapid but controlled introduction of OSI conformant products and services. ONA provides an open record of how BT intends to use the OSI standards in real implementations; the information includes the standards supported, the choice of options necessary for interoperability, plus details of pragmatic implementation constraints. BT will use ONA to provide an architectural framework for its emerging products and services. For BT as a user of IT products, it will also provide a basis for procurement.
