Abstract

SUMMARY The NYPL Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) opened in 1996 with a primary mission to support local small business development. In the intervening ten years, changes in the information environment, including the mass adoption of the Internet, have led the library to customize its information and instructional services for small businesses with limited time to spend in the library. A dedicated small business Website serves off-site users. SIBL has adopted a range of marketing strategies including the use of its customers and partners in the non-profit and government sectors to market itself more effectively.
